Rake the Town 2014
October 24 and October 25
Active Generations and Workers on Wheels have partnered with Argus Leader Media and Helpline Center to support “Rake the Town” as this year’s “Make A Difference Day” project.
Homeowners may register to have their yard raked by dialing 211 and ask to be added to the Rake the Town list.
Homeowner registration ends October 8.
This two-day event will engage over 1,000 volunteers to rake the yards of 300 elderly and disabled homeowners in the Sioux Falls area.
Volunteer Registration – Go to http://helplinecenter.org/make-a-difference-day-rake-the-town/ to complete the Rake the Town volunteer registration form.
For additional information dial 211 or call 333-3317.
Volunteer registration ends October 15.
- Approximately 4-6 adult rakers are needed per yard.
- Children are welcome to participate if supervised by adults.
- The length of time spent on each yard varies from 1-4 hours depending on the size of the yard.
Leaf bags are provided but volunteers are asked to bring their own rakes and when possible, haul the bags to the leaf drop off site.
Inclement Weather –
Volunteer team leaders should arrange a Rain Date that works for your individual team. Volunteers are asked to keep the yard assignments and be responsible for raking as soon as possible.
Volunteer Kick-Off Breakfast! (new in 2014)
For those that are raking on Saturday, we will be holding a kick-off breakfast at 8:00 am at Active Generations.
Volunteers will pick up their supplies at this time and be thanked for their service.
All volunteers are encourage to attend.
There is no specific training for Rake the Town. We asks that volunteers be courteous, complete the assignment, and most of all have fun raking for the elderly in Sioux Falls!
